Light Source Local Recruitment Event

As part of Light Sources’ commitment to recruit local people, they held a successful open day, in conjunction with “The Department for Work and Pensions”, (DWP), at Britannia House in November.

The objective of the event was to “give a break” to a local unemployed person who had the aptitude and moral backbone of their existing team.

The Directors of Light Source were very appreciative of the support given by Spencer Barrett and Ian Rees who both attended the event on behalf of KC and made themselves available for a question before and after the event.

Light Source Managing Director, Steve Hill remarked, “ The journey started with literally a knock on the door at Beverley Job Centre to float our vision. Myself and Kevan Egan, (LS Operations Director), then attended more formal meetings with Tracy Malkin and Helen Hewson who both work for DWP .”

Light Source issued Helen and Tracy with very high-level job descriptions to allow them to focus on the unemployed candidates that had associated skills, which might easily be transferred into the Light Source delivery disciplines.

Steve continued, “The support we received from Helen, Tracy and their team was excellent. They coordinated the event, allowed the use of Britannia House for interviews and were continually coaching candidates.., an absolute credit to their employer”

The event was attended by over thirty people, most of which applied for the trainee position available. Through thorough deliberation, the Managers at Light Source whittled this down to eight who they then interviewed in early December.

The great news is that the two successful candidates, Wayne Pocklington and Ricky Navier started with Light Source on 12th January as Trainee Engineers.

Steve concluded, “This was a great initiative supported by KC and DWP. It truly demonstrates our commitment to reinvest into the City and ensure this legacy network is build by the people of Hull. The majority of our Team is from the local area and we will continue to pursue that policy. The Trainees will be complimented by the seven experienced “copper” engineers we started during December and January".
