Network Design

As pioneers of early fibre optic networks, we specialise in the provision of robust, cost effective designs. Our designs are based on the principle that networks need to be easy to build, manage and maintain, providing the ultimate experience for the end user with significant reductions in operating expenditure for the operator.

Light Source has a drawing office that outputs civils designs on O.S. mapping, and develop detailed schematics for use in the field or switch. We have a full back office that supports safe dig information and street works noticing

Our planners are all NRSWA accredited, have CDM level 3 Risk Assessment accreditation and a vast knowledge of modern RF networks. We can act as CDM-C for CDM projects.

Cable Installation and Commissioning

Since 2008 Light Source has had a major growth in this area of our business that influenced the decision to rebrand the business as Light Source, (formerly Light Source Design). We have a fleet of Digital Engineers and Commissioners with vast experience of national networks.

Light Source is currently involved with BT for the rollout of the KC Lightstream Fibre to the Home project in Hull delivering up to 100 Mbps lightening fast broadband to the home.

We specialise in blown fibre solutions and have also worked with Plumett to develop a cable installation solution to float/ jet cables into sealed ducts over extensive distances.

We are continually challenging our senior engineers to deliver innovative ideas, particularly for structured cabling where we feel that

CAT5e/ 6 can be used in tandem with fibre to offer an economical solution for businesses and residential MDU’s.

Light Source offer full switch installation services including racks, cabinets, high density patching frames, ODF’s, DDF’s, routers and transmission kit. Our crews have familiarity of installing, (but not limited to), Alcatel Lucent, Ciena, Cisco, Juniper and Sonus equipment, along with legacy equipment.

Radio Networks

Light Source is working with partners to deliver design and implementation of 4th generation networks, (WiMax/ Long Term Evolutions).

Our engineers are specialist in Design and Project Engineering for network implementation. They can demonstrate how Wireless can be used by mobile and roaming users, as an alternative to fixed line, dial-up and mobile communications solutions.

We have a full understanding of laws governing the use of wireless networks that allows us to utilise the fundamental concepts and operating principles of wireless in a design.

Light Source understands the concepts and benefits of Voice over Wireless (Wireless VoIP) and has a full appreciation of the product ranges and offerings of the major enterprise Wireless vendors.

The business analyses the options that organisations face when implementing wireless LANs and perform professional planning, surveys, design and implementation processes for 3 and 4g networks and well as calculate the costs of implementing and supporting Wireless networks for the end user.

Our designs incorporate fundamental security safeguards into the network, whilst analysing the security mechanisms and countermeasures that are available for Wireless vulnerabilities.

Our growth in the civil engineering field was primarily driven by client demands due to the success of our Design, Cabling and Project Management services.

We have completed networks for such clients as The Welsh Assembly, Geo, North Midland Construction PLC, Capita (NHS) and Interoute. In all of these instances our service provision has been from F10 to acceptance delivery.

We do not work with small sub contractors, but partner with larger PLC’s such as North Midland Construction.

Project Management

Light Source provides Project Managers either as a deployment or as part of our ‘end to end’ solution for our clients.  The business operates with a backbone of Prince II principles and our resource is specifically skilled in the communication and utility disciplines.
